Quilting, an American Tradition
works from the Swamp Fox Quilters Guild
Quilting is one instance of the
intersection between art and craft.
Though the root of quilting in the
United States is anchored in the
necessities of colonial, pre-industrial
domestic living, it quickly evolved into
an independent art form.

The Swamp Fox Quilters Guild, based
in Florence County, continues to
explore the relationship between form
and function. This exhibit focuses on
traditional quilt block patterns and
intends to be an introduction to quilt
making and its history in the United
States.

There are 21 quilts on display, each
one selected for it's unique historical
connections, technique and
craftsmanship. The result is a diverse
and educational exhibition that not only
reveals a unique aspect of American
history, but the talent of Pee Dee area
artist who are keeping the quilting
tradition alive.
